New joint-chairman David Gold has admitted that Blackburn Rovers striker Benni McCarthy is a transfer window target for West Ham United.

Gold and business partner David Sullivan acquired a 50 per cent and controlling interest in the Hammers earlier in the week and have already promised fans that none of the clubs leading players will be sold.

Instead they are keen to provide Gianfranco Zola with transfer funds and the former Birmingham City owners met with the Italian manager on Tuesday night to discuss potential targets.

When asked whether McCarthy – who has been told he can leave Ewood Park for the right price this month – is one of those, Gold told Sky Sports News:"I think that he would be a good acquisition if that can be achieved.

"It is possible but all strikers that are available as we speak are possible.

"It is a question of can we do business."

McCarthy, 32, has struggled to hold down a starting place at Blackburn this season and is desperate to boost his chances of representing South Africa in the forthcoming World Cup.
