Portsmouth have paid off their outstanding football creditors and the transfer ban imposed on the club four months ago has now been lifted.
The beleaguered Fratton Park outfit were banned from signing any new players by the Premier League back in October after they failed to pay off outstanding transfer fees owed to club both at home and abroad.
The ban was the latest in a long line of financial body blows to strike the south coast during a turbulent season which has also brought the threat of a winding up order by HM Revenue and Customs.
Until this month Pompey still owed Udinese money for their capture of Ghana midfielder Sulley Muntari back in 2007.
However, after clearing the £1.5mllion debt owed to the Italian club, the transfer ban has now been lifted.
"We have been working very, very hard behind the scenes and are delighted the embargo has now been lifted," executive director Mark Jacob told The News.
"It will now enable manager Avram Grant to strengthen the squad where necessary.
"This is another piece of the jigsaw we are trying to put back together.
"I sincerely hope supporters can get fully behind the team against West Ham (on Tuesday night) for what is a crucial match and generate that Fratton fortress atmosphere once again."
