West Ham United forward Freddie Sears is hoping to play his way back into the first-team picture after returning from a loan spell away from Upton Park.

The 20-year-old frontman is back with the Hammers following a six-month loan spell in the Championship at Crystal Palace.

Sears is now hoping to profit from the lengthy injury list which continues to hamper Irons boss Gianfranco Zola.

The England Under-21 international progressed through the youth ranks with the likes of established first-team players Junior Stanislas, Jack Collison and James Tomkins.

"The banter is great," he told the club's official website."It is good to be back with Junior, JC and Tonks.

"The atmosphere is good and also with the older players. Everyone is happy and it is a great place to be.

"There have been a few injuries so now is a good time for me to stake my claim. It is an opportunity for me that I have to take."
