Patrick Vieira believes Manchester City can score their way to success this season ahead of his first game for his new club.

The France midfielder is set to make his debut in Monday's Premier League encounter with Blackburn Rovers and the former Arsenal, Internazionale and Juventus star has been struck by the quality of the club's forward players in his first few training sessions.

City boss Roberto Mancini has a galaxy of attacking stars at his disposal with the likes of Robinho, Carlos Tevez, Emmanuel Adebayor, Craig Bellamy, Martin Petrov and Roque Santa Cruz all competing for starting places.

"There are so many big names here," enthused Vieira."When you look around Europe I don't know if any other club has five big names like that who can score goals at any time during a game.

"It gives you so much confidence when you go onto a pitch knowing you have all these players. That is what you need to win games."

Speaking about City's hopes of finishing in the Premier League's top four and securing a place in the Champions League this season, he added:"The most important thing now is to look at it step by step.

"We just look at Blackburn, then Everton next Saturday. It is one game at a time. That is how it must be.

"It is important we get to our destination slowly but securely. Once we are in the top four we will have another look."
