‘Summer’s most wanted’ – Tottenham’s Jamie O’Hara
Jamie O’Hara has been on loan at Portsmouth from Tottenham since August, and is now staying at the club until the end of the season. This was confirmed in the last transfer window, but with the future of Portsmouth Football Club in major doubt, where will O’Hara end up at the start of next season?
O’Hara is likely to find himself stranded, at least during the beginning stages of the summer. It is likely that he may end up leaving Tottenham permanently because he is not likely to get a regular role in the midfield. Speaking to Sky Sports News, the 23-year-old said: “The long term is something I’m going to have to sit down and talk about at the end of the season; I went back to Tottenham and wasn’t really involved, so maybe I have to move on. We’ll see what happens at the end of the season but they’re a massive club and they’re always going to be involved in big signings. Sometimes you have to move on as a younger English player to further your career.”
Judging by what he has said, he will know deep down that there is no future for him at White Hart Lane. The fact that he recognises the club is going to be “involved in big signings” suggests there could be significant transfer activity at Tottenham this summer. It may be that O’Hara has to lower his standards, and try to engineer a move to club in the Premiership that is lower in stature than Tottenham.
It emerged purely on speculation in January that Fulham were potential candidates to sign O’Hara at the end of the season. Under the circumstances at Fratton Park, Portsmouth did very well to keep hold of O’Hara, but if Fulham are the one club that were only linked with the player, initially, then they may step up their pursuit should they be genuinely interested. If the young Englishman wanted a logical move, rather than one made in desperation for his career at another relegation club, then Fulham sounds ideal. He would still be based, and therefore live, in London, and join a club that looks like it is going to be climbing the league in the next season or so.
Fulham boss Roy Hodgson is good at bringing the best out of players who were not fulfilling their true capabilities at their previous clubs. O’Hara is a technically good and hard-working player. His versatility will allow him to play in either the centre of midfield or on the left-hand side. The chances are that he will get noticed more at a reputable club like Fulham, and achieve what surely must be an ambition of his- to play for England- something he has only experienced at U21 level so far.

Maybe I’m missing something and I know that they play in different positions but why have we loaned out O’Hara who is the type of squad player every successful club should have and is getting better all the time and persevering with that useless numpty Jermaine Jenas? Would somebody please explain.

He signed a long term contract very recently at Spurs. He wouldn’t have progressed sitting on the bench (if that) fighting it out with Jenas as backup to Hudd and Wilson- but a season playing every match for Pompey will make him a far better player. We’ll bring him back and get him involved. And although I hope not, if we do sell him his value will have gone up hugely. Also I think it’s fairly clear we loned him to them at least as a good will part part of the Kranjcar and then Kaboul signings… I think we’ll see him back in a Spurs shirt next year. COYS

He will be our Darren Fletcher, the boy has great potential, can and does get stuck it, has a cracking shot and great passing, as highlighted for Pompy against Southampton. Next year with the extra experience and the extra games we will hopefully have with Europe will mean he returns to us!

O’Hara is a better player than both Huddlestone and Jenas

he’re we go, spurs fans getting carried away again after a good performance against a league one team. He definitely would be a good squad player but i cant stand hearing rubbish like ‘hes better than huddlestone’. People cant seperate between a player with form and a player with ability anymore. You throw o’hara in the 1st XI and ul see be able to highlight his weaknesses alot easier

I would honestly have him over Jenas. And no I’m not jumping on the ‘Hate Jenas’ bandwagon. I have felt that Jenas’ time has come and gone. He has continually failed to impose himself in the midfield. he only seems interested at times and hasn’t been consistent for some years. This season has seen him digress at an alarming rate. Yes I know it is confidence, but to me that is character.
I would prefer O’ Hara to come back to the Lane in the summer and be part of the upcoming season. He has come on leaps and bounds with games at Portsmouth. Regardless of the score he will battle and seems to know what he is going to do with the ball as he receives it. I don’t see this with Jenas which leads to ball played back into tight spots. O’ Hara is also willing to get stuck in. So, for the sake of a squad, keep O’ Hara and sell Jenas. I think a fresh start will do him good.

i think the early kick off affected our first half display, bloody asleep, woke up second half and dominated , just like we should have in the first half, bale was very good today, huddlestone, crouch, modric, bentley, where were they, when you play the teams like bolton, you have to win the midfield then play the football, first half we lost nearly everything, knock downs, second balls, tackles, interceptions, headers, come on spurs wake up, the last 4 to 5 games, youve been playing on autopilot, going through the motions, no urgency or thought, crouch is very limited, and should be used as sub only, palacios needs a partner playmaker, like glenn hoddle was, he does the guarding, while the playmaker goes right through to their last 3rd , and either has a go at goal, or slots our strikers some penetrating passes, we havent got that yet, and huddlestone is not the answer, and jackass definetely aint.
come on you spurs, BLOODY WAKE UP.

Great lad, good engine, technique, left foot…
Trouble is, he’s just too slow for the Premiership…
If he played with Wilson, we would lack the passing that Hudd provides…
…and he and Hudd in MF would be a disaster, as neither can close down or track back, effectively…
(I’m not even going to mention Jenas).
Hudd just shades it on technique for me, so Jamie will only ever be a (v good) squad player…
