Am I the only one getting a little bored of Ipswich’s Roy Keane?

Am I the only one who’s getting a little bit bored of Roy Keane’s constant attention seeking remarks? I don’t know the man, but it seems to me that after the mild success at Sunderland, he has come a little undone at Ipswich. His constant ‘hard man’ attitude in press conferences is starting to bore me and, unless he really is the most unhappy person in the World, it might be a lighter attitude that would stop his players losing to the likes of Peterborough.

After watching to a number of interviews, I began to realise why he may have peed off the likes of Mick McCarthy and Alex Ferguson. It’s all well and good to be confident or hard-faced when you’re succeeding, but when you’re not, it makes you look a little bit foolish at times. That’s my opinion at least.

Six months on from the start of the Championship and Ipswich are just 3 points of the relegation zone, in 19th place. A far cry from the predictions when the appointment of Roy Keane was announced. The bookies were very keen to back him, stating that he had a good record in the Championship, possibly why he decided to try his best to take them back there then.

There is no doubt that he has dressing room presence. People genuinely fear the man but does that necessarily mean he can create a good football team? No. Not every player he works with will react to a foul-mouthed rollocking after a bad performance but it seems that Keane has no interest in player’s who need something different. The impression the Irishman gives off is that he can only work in one way. I’m sure the likes of Mourinho, Hiddink and Ferguson have all had their rants, but, when needed, I’m also convinced that they have been able to put their arm around a player and say ‘hey, keep your head up son’.

They way in which he shrugged off a question about the Henry incident against Ireland as ‘I couldn’t care less’ was another example. Was that remark really necessary? He could of answered in a more dignified manner as most managers would have.

Ipswich are a team that may have needed a kick up the back side but bringing in Keane was like releasing a Rottweiler on a pack of kittens. A more cautious approach might have been a wiser idea.

None the less, they are in it together. Ipswich fans will still feel that if anybody can save them from relegation then Keane is the man. It will certainly be a test, and a possibly the first measure of his ability as a manager, just please do one thing for me Ipswich fans?

Don’t show him this. I wouldn’t want to get him angry.
