Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas will one day return to former club Barcelona, according to the Spanish club's vice-president Alfons Godall.

Fabregas left the Catalan club as a teenager in 2003 to join the Gunners where he has gone on to make over 250 appearances and take the captain's armband.

The 22-year-old is continually linked with a return to Spain despite being tied to a long-term contract at the Emirates Stadium.

But now Godall, who hopes to succeed Joan Laporta as president at elections later this year, has gone public with his belief that Fabregas will pull on the blue and red of Barcelona again.

"Sooner or later Cesc will end up coming back," Godall said in The Sun amid reports of a potential £40million summer swoop.

"We are a club that can sign players because we are respected and solvent."
