Bolton Wanderers boss Owen Coyle was disappointed with the result but not the performance after the Trotters lost 2-0 at Manchester City.

Coyle felt that his side had shown up well against the cash-rich Citizens and called on his players to maintain that level of performance.

He told the club's official website:"We are disappointed not to have taken anything from the match.

"We should have had a couple of penalties but we came out in the second half and took the game to Manchester City. We made a side that cost £200 to £300million look ordinary.

"Looking at the fixtures since we came in we knew it was going to be difficult – Arsenal home and away, Liverpool and Manchester City away.

"These teams are challenging for the top four, but we are now going into a period of six games against teams in and around us and if we perform like we've done over the last few games, then we will be fine.

"Now all we have to do is turn these performances into points."
