Burnley manager Brian Laws blamed a "crazy" few minutes for Sunday's 5-2 thrashing at the hands of Aston Villa.
The visiting Clarets were given an early boost when Steven Fletcher opened the scoring, but this was cancelled out before half-time by Ashley Young.
Stewart Downing (2), Emile Heskey and Gabby Agbonlahor then piled on the misery for the struggling Clarets with a devastating four-goal blast inside 12 second-half minutes.
Burnley slumped to their eighth successive away defeat and afterwards Laws blamed their naivety.
"In the first half we were excellent and the game plan was spot on. We deserved to go in front and were bright, organised and solid," he explained.
"But what we didn't do was regroup well after the equaliser and the second goal was the killer.
"It was very sloppy and led to a crazy 12 or 13 minutes that lost us the game and you can't rectify anything after that.
"We didn't capitulate but we were too expansive with our play."
