Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Dave Edwards is set to see a specialist to try and get to the bottom of an ankle problem which has seen him sidelined since mid-December.

The 24-year-old Wales international needed an operation after suffering an initial problem during the 1-0 win at Tottenham Hotspur, with a comeback having been aborted several weeks ago following a setback in training.

Edwards told the Express & Star:"Once we've had his advice hopefully I can crack. It has started to get better the last week or so and we're hoping for good news from the specialist.

"If he gives me the okay I can crack on with my rehab and see how it goes. With any luck I won't be out for much longer.

"It will be nice to get back into the frame and hopefully get fit, first and foremost. Then it will be a case of trying to give the gaffer a selection headache when I am fit.

"I got back into full training for three days and it felt really good. It was five weeks after the operation and things were looking good, but it's only when you get back into training you find out it's not quite right.

"Nothing went again, or anything like that, it just didn't feel right. So I came back out of training and that's where I'm at.

"I've been quite lucky so far not to have any bad injuries in my career, but this is the worst to date."
