Blackburn Rovers boss Sam Allardyce has offered his backing to Australia midfielder Vince Grella, whose time at Ewood Park has been blighted by injuries.

The 30-year-old moved to England from Torino in the summer of 2008, but has been restricted to just 32 appearances for Rovers to date.

Allardyce told the Lancashire Telegraph:"I think this year Vince Grella has been unlucky.

"Last year it was a case of finding out the Premier League is far tougher and far more demanding than anything he has ever experienced in his life.

"He came to terms with that by having a relatively good pre-season and then starting the season okay. Then all of a sudden he has had a little injury here and there.

"The last one was very unlucky though. It was the last minute, he went for a volley, missed the volley and pulled a thigh muscle.

"He has shown some signs of producing his best form for us."
