Sunderland goalkeeper Craig Gordon believes that striker Kenwyne Jones is back to his best and will be a key figure in the second half of the season for the Black Cats.

The 25-year-old frontman was linked with a move away from the Stadium of Light in the January transfer window, but has stayed put to try and help Sunderland arrest a dramatic slump in fortunes.

Gordon told the Sunderland Echo:"Kenwyne really looks like he's got the bit between his teeth. I think he's been one of if not our best performer in the last two or three games.

"When he's in the team and really up for it, he gives us a lot and he'll be a really big player for us for the rest of the season.

"He's a handful in both boxes. You can't underestimate the job he does for us defensively when he comes back to help out at corners and free-kicks. He clears everything.

"He's been a threat up top as well and we need everyone in the team to be playing with that spark and energy now."
