Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez claimed a catalogue of mistakes from the match officials cost his side any chance of victory during Sunday's 3-0 defeat to Tottenham.
The struggling Latics fell behind to a 27th minute opener from Jermain Defoe when the England striker was clearly offside.
Martinez was also frustrated that referee Alan Wiley failed to show Defoe a straight red card for a crude tackle on Gary Caldwell.
Wiley also decided not to show Spurs midfielder Tom Huddlestone a second yellow card despite a second-half tussle with James McCarthy.
"We knew the first goal was going to be paramount today. It should have been disallowed," explained Martinez.
"It is hard to explain. He is one-and-half yards offside and the linesman has no one in his vision. A goal then changes the game.
"Defoe and Huddlestone did enough to be sent off. The challenges are very straightforward.
"Defoe has both feet off the ground and it is clearly a red card.
"Huddlestone has already been booked for one challenge and the next one is also worthy of another yellow.
"I do not like to be critical of the referee but it is hard to explain his performance today."
