Blackburn Rovers boss Sam Allardyce is happy that captain Ryan Nelsen's knee injury has proved not to be as serious as was first feared.

The 32-year-old New Zealand international defender was forced off early on in the 3-0 victory over Bolton Wanderers last weekend, but is likely to be sidelined for a matter of weeks rather than months.

Allardyce told the club's official website:"We were all worried initially, but now we've had the scans and it has settled down, we are all much more comfortable.

"We are going to miss Ryan for the next few weeks rather than months, which we first feared.

"So, I expect to see Ryan back in the next two or three weeks hopefully.

"It might take a bit longer, but we will see him well before the end of the season, that's for sure."
