Sunderland boss Steve Bruce has criticised his side for failing to find a cutting edge during their 2-0 loss at Arsenal on Saturday afternoon.

Although the Gunners dominated possession, the Black Cats fashioned chances of their own through Kenwyne Jones and Darren Bent.

The strike pair failed to take their opportunities and were punished as Nicklas Bendtner scored in the 27th minute, before Cesc Fabregas fired home a last-gasp penalty as Arsene Wenger's men secured the win.

A disappointed Bruce said:"We've had great opportunities, really good chances, possibly the best chances in the game and whenever you come to a big club like this you need to take them, you don't get many.

"So we needed to take one and I was delighted the way we played. Of course we rode our luck in the first ten, 15, 20 minutes but we stuck at it, showed a bit of resilience.

"On another day, just needed a goal to give everybody a lift and maybe get the result which would kick-start our season."
