Veteran striker Kevin Phillips has admitted that he will weigh up his options at the end of the season, as he struggles to secure a regular starting spot at Birmingham City.

The 36-year-old netted twice in the 2-1 victory over Wolves at the weekend after coming on as a substitute, but may be handed a starting role against West Ham United due to an injury to Christian Benitez.

Phillips said:"I can bring things to the club. I can help younger players, but ultimately I don't want to finish my career on the bench week in and week out.

"I've done it a fair bit this year but, if the chance comes to go somewhere in the summer where I can go and play regularly, I'll look at it.

"But I've had a fantastic year and a half here. If the manager wants to speak about another year, I'll definitely speak to him.

"Someone said to me, who is well respected in the game, that you want to play at the highest level as long as you can. It is easier to go down than to come back up.

"That is a decision I'll make in the summer and see what happens.

"But I certainly won't be one of those players in three or four years time who will still be playing in the lower divisions. The Championship is as far down as I would go."
