Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has been bailed after appearing in court to answer charges of tax evasion.

The 62-year-old appeared at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court on Thursday morning charged with two counts of tax evasion alongside former Portsmouth chairman Milan Mandaric.

Redknapp, who managed Portsmouth on two occasions before moving on to Spurs in October 2008, was charged with cheating the public revenue out of around £40,000 after allegedly evading tax and national insurance contributions between 1 April 2002 and 28 November 2007.

Mandaric, who is now the chairman of Championship club Leicester City, was answering a similar charge.

Both men were released on unconditional bail after the case was adjourned until April 14.

Redknapp refused to comment after leaving the court but earlier in the year had protested his innocence, saying: "I've got an awful lot I'd love to say and when the time is right I will say it but I've been advised not to discuss the matter."
