Burnley veteran Graham Alexander has vowed that he and his team-mates will give their all to avoid an immediate return to the Championship at the end of the season.

The Clarets are currently in the relegation zone, having gathered 24 points from 29 league games so far this term and with a crunch clash with Wolves at Turf Moor next up.

Many pundits have already written Burnley off, but Alexander will not give up without a fight.

He told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph:"I can't speak for anyone else but the players haven't accepted it. We realise the constraints the club have got with the financial situation, but that's nothing to do with us.

"We wanted to fight to get here, we've got here and now we've got to prove we're good enough to stay here. The lads aren't thinking it will be okay if we get relegated.

"We're fighting for every point and we're going to do that right to the wire.

"We were written off at the start of the season, that we wouldn't win a game and would finish with the lowest points total.

"We've shown people we can win, so we've just got to keep proving people wrong and use that to keep the fire in the belly going."
