Fabio Capello fears that money could ruin England's chances of World Cup glory in South Africa.

The Italian coach has reminded his players of their responsibility as role models in the build-up to the tournament following a series of scandals which he claims could undermine their bid for success this summer.

Capello had to fend off questions about the mood in the camp in the build-up to Wednesday's friendly with Egypt following the much-publicised problems in the private lives of John Terry and Ashley Cole.

Chelsea skipper Terry was stripped of the international captaincy following allegations of an affair with the ex-girlfriend of England team-mate Wayne Bridge.

Manchester City full-back Bridge has since made himself unavailable for international selection in a further blow to the Italian

Meanwhile, Cole's name has made front page news in recent weeks following a split from his high-profile wife.

"Players have to be an example to the children," declared Capello.

"For that reason, they have to stay careful at all times and sacrifice something in their lives.

"They are young players, young boys, who are rich boys. This is the problem.

"It is not only here. In Italy, in Germany, in Spain, in every country where football is so important it is the same problem."

Meanwhile, Capello has urged the Wembley crowd to back every player in an England shirt on Wednesday night despite suggestions that Terry in particularly could be booed.

He added:"I hope the fans help the team. They understand the private life of some players has not been so good and I know they are worried after what has happened.

"But we are dressed in the England shirt and it's important for us that they help us every moment, so I hope they don't boo John Terry.

"He is a part of the team and an important player for us.

"Both tomorrow and afterwards, the fans have to think we win important games together."
