Manchester City midfielder Michael Johnson has been arrested and quizzed by police following allegations of an assault on a Manchester United fan.

Johnson was arrested on suspicion of assault causing actual bodily harm and bailed until March 18.

The 22-year-old midfielder attended a police station in Manchester by appointment following the alleged incident in Manchester city centre back in December.

"Just after 1am on Sunday December 6, 2009, a patrol car was flagged down and an officer was told a man had been assaulted," confirmed a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police.

"The 22-year-old reported that he had been assaulted in 42nd Street nightclub. He had a cut to the face but no other injuries.

"A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm and remains on police bail as inquiries continue."

Johnson, who is a product of City's youth academy, is currently out of action after rupturing his knee ligaments.
