Reds duo set for new deals

Liverpool pair Javier Mascherano and Jose Reina are ready to settle doubts over their futures at the club by signing new contracts, according to manager Rafa Benitez.

Both players have been linked with moves away from Anfield, with Argentine star Mascherano particularly close to leaving last summer after reportedly holding talks with Barcelona.

Benitez has now said that he feels both are ready commit themselves to the Reds, telling reporters: "Everything is very close. I think we will have news about Reina and Mascherano very soon."

The Spanish boss confirmed that talks were ongoing between the club and Mascherano, revealing:"I was talking with him and his agent the other day and it is true Javier is happier. When you talk with Javier he is very settled and happy.

He went on to rubbish fears over goalkeeper Reina's future, saying confidently: "Pepe (Reina) is another key player and it is 100% he will continue with us."
