Who is set for the chop at Tottenham this summer?

The turnover of players at White Hart Lane is such that often, when watching the likes of Sunderland or Fulham, it’s like stepping into a Tottenham Hotspur time-machine. A Sunderland match might feature Darren Bent, Steed Malbranque, Alan Hutton, Frasier Campbell and Andy Reid, or if you catch a Fulham match on the box, watching Paul Konchesky, Stephen Kelly, Danny Murphy, Simon Davies or Bobby Zamora leaves you feeling all nostalgic.

Whilst watching Tottenham B and C teams is enjoyable, it does beg the question: who will be next out the revolving door at White Hart Lane? Below the chances of each player’s departure is rated out of ten.

Roman Pavlyuchenko

What a difference a few weeks makes…

The Russian assassin spent most of the season on the bench, angling for a move away from White Hart Lane. He was outspoken in his desire to move to Lokomotiv Moscow, and accused Harry Redknapp of making ‘fun’ of him.

Pavlyuchenko did not set the world on fire last season, but his form did not merit his total alienation from the first tem this term. It does beg the question however: what was Pavlyuchenko doing in training?

He needs to spend the rest of the season banging in goals because Redknapp clearly questions his overall contribution. His running off the ball, and hold up play needs to improve (but is it worse than Crouch’s?). Further, he needs to start speaking English. Quickly.

Verdict: 7/10

Redknapp prefers the Crouch-Defoe axis, and would ideally like to move him on for a large fee. However, Pavlyuchenko is a fans favourite, and if he continues scoring, Redknapp may face a supporter’s backlash.

Robbie Keane

Started the season well, and arguably Tottenham played better football with Keane upfront compared with Crouch. However, the fact that he was shipped off to Scotland in the midst of Tottenham’s fight for Champions League football suggests Redknapp doesn’t feel the club needs him anymore.

Verdict: 10/10

He’ll be off in the summer, Redknapp doesn’t rate him, and the fans love affair with the Irishman ended the day he left for Liverpool. He’s too expensive for Celtic. A move to Sunderland or Birmingham could make sense.

David Bentley

Bentley is a difficult case. He barely played for Tottenham this season after being frozen out, quite rightly, owing to the form of Aaron Lennon. However, if Tottenham want to compete, a big squad is vital, and Bentley performed well after Lennon injured his groin.

Bentley provides more width than Modric and Kranjcar, and played well whilst deputising for Lennon. However, Bentley will not want to spend another season on the bench at Tottenham, and Lennon is clearly first choice.

Verdict: 6/10

He’s too good to sit on the bench, and Redknapp will have a job keeping him happy. Whilst European football could offer more game time, Bentley may ask for a move to kick start his career.

Jermaine Jenas

Jermaine Jenas is currently undergoing treatment for a groin, and depending on how long the player is out for, Jenas could have played his last game at White Hart Lane.

Jenas has fallen out of favour with Redknapp, as Huddlestone is the preferred partner to Wilson Palacios. The player is also an unpopular figure with supporters. Jenas turned 27 last month, and is in the prime of his career. He will not want to sit on the Tottenham bench for much longer.

Verdict: 9/10

Jenas is an England international, and can score goals, performing well for Tottenham in big matches. A move may reignite his career, and there’ll be no shortage of suitors for his signature. Aston Villa could be a possible destination.

Jamie O’Hara

Tottenham fans seem to like the young England U21 international, and the player has performed admirably for Portsmouth this season on the South Coast.

Tottenham are short of central midfield players, and O’Hara could be a useful squad member next season.

Verdict 5/10

O’Hara is clearly a player who wants to play football, and he recently admitted in an interview with Sky Sports that he may have to move on in order to play first team football. Further, Tottenham are known to be after another central midfield player. However, Redknapp seems to like the 23 year old, and will want better cover in midfield next season. The chances of him leaving are 50/50.

Alan Hutton

Since joining the club for around £9m, Hutton has been unlucky with injury, and has never had a prolonged period in the first team. However, whilst he could be a player for the club given time, Vedran Corluka, Kyle Naughon and Kyle Walker, all right backs, have been signed up.

With Tottenham’s problems in defence, Hutton could have been put at right back, with Corluka covering the centre. However, instead, Redknapp bough Kaboul, recalled Kyle Walker and allowed Hutton to join Sunderland.

Verdict: 9/10

By allowing Hutton to leave on loan, he’s basically put the player in the shop window. He may well join the ghosts of Tottenham players past on Wearside permanently.

Giovani Dos Santos

In total, the player has made 15 appearances for Tottenham, scoring one goal in the League Cup. He looked like a player at Barcelona, scoring one of the best hat-tricks you’ll see against Real Murcia on the last day of the La Liga season in 2007.

However, the boy has struggled with ankle problems since joining the club, and has never come close to earning a regular place in the first team squad under Redknapp.

He has undoubted talent, and at 20 years old, will only get better. However, he cuts a slight figure, and Tottenham already have the likes of Modric, Lennon and Kranjcar to create openings.

Verdict: 10/10

The player may favour a move back to Spain. Redknapp will not be able to find a place for the Mexican international, and Tottenham will look to recoup some of the £4.7m they spent on the player.

There you have it. This time next season, these players may well be sold on as Tottenham continue their revolving door policy. However, Tottenham may well wish to retain the services of Pavlyuchenko or Bentley for example, should the club achieve their aim of claiming a place in next seasons Champions League. Whether some of these players will want to remain on the bench however, remains to be seen…
