Will this ‘Special Signing’ prove enough for Redknapp?
Harry Redknapp believes his side may only need one ‘special’ signing this summer, as he looks to take on Europe’s finest next season.
Spurs have had a fantastic season to say the very least. The North London side secured the illustrious fourth spot which has ensured them a crack at the champion’s league next season. With this being said, Tottenham still have the task of qualifying to the group stages of the competition, so don’t cross the bridge till you come to it.
It is reported that the spurs boss will not be looking to bring in a group of players; instead he will add a minimal addition to the squad if he thinks he requires it. Redknapp is happy with his present team and feels he has healthy competition in all areas of his side. Redknapp is unwilling to ‘splash the cash’ unnecessarily. Spurs have been hit with a list of injuries this season, and Redknapp hopes that next season won’t bring the same torment.
Nevertheless, the spurs boss has identified that in order for his team to go forward and build on their success from this season, he is prepared to spend big money on a ‘special’ signing this summer. Redknapp told sky sports of his potential spending spree this summer:
“I wouldn’t lose any sleep if we don’t do anything this summer. But if we could find a really special player, someone who could take the team to another level like, for example, the way (Fernando) Torres did to Liverpool, then we’ll try to do that.
He finished off by saying:
“It might only be one player – one expensive player – but then we might go for it. I don’t want four or five players – I wouldn’t know what to do with them.”
With that being said, is Redknapp’s thinking right? Do spurs need just one ‘special signing or should they look to add 3-4 players this summer? Spurs do have an adequate number of players, but with the prospect of qualifying for the champion’s league next season, are the players ready for the challenge? More importantly, do they feel they are capable of taking the next step?
In order to play with Europe’s elite you must have a solid and experienced team no questions asked. It is a big step for spurs and many would believe that in order to challenge and compete with the best, they will need to acquire top quality players during the summer.
Tottenham have only 5 players in their squad with European football experience, these being Luka Modric, Roman Pavluchenko, Heurelho Gomes, Peter Crouch and Eidur Gudjohnsen (currently on-loan from Barcelona, maybe a spurs player next season, who knows).
Spurs fans will no doubt be divided in Redknapp’s hypothesis of obtaining one ‘special’ signing this summer. Many would believe that the manager should splash the cash, while others may think that the squad is fine the way it is. Redkanpp has already expressed an interest in signing the legendary Raul from Madrid, but is he the man spurs need to crack Europe?
The bottom line is Redknapp will have a lot to think about this summer, whether he adds to his squad is down to him. Next season, Tottenham could undertake an expedition even they thought wasn’t accessible.

get in another centre back depending on the state of woody and king after the world cup. maybe simon kjaer.
get in another right back too, if naughton and hutton are both sold
buy gudjohnson on permenant,
and get another midfielder in like carrick, or someone with a bit of an engine, to replace jenas.

Gudjohnsen is on loan from Monaco…Robbie Keane, Jonathan Woodgate, Giovanni Dos Santos and Alan Hutton have also played in the Champions League – with the majority of the others having played European football in the UEFA Cup.
Raul is not the man for the job.

assou aint good enough at left back, so sloppy, has cost us dear so many times this season. Bale i see as a left winger, so priorty for me is a left back, world class striker, back up keeper and a classy midfielder who scores goals.

We need more than one signing for sure. to ‘Zagreb Bar’ – Keane may not be at spurs next season, Hutton is useless, woodgate is always injured and when was the last time you saw dos santos in a white shirt? their all not good enough in my book.
Raul would not be worthwile either.

i think that gudjohnsen hasnt really stood out this season, and that he is at best, as good as an average fulham player, his missed a few sitters, another player that isnt good enough for a top four challenging team is keane..
therefore i believe that if were looking for a season equivalent or even better than this season, we would need to buy at least ONE striker, maybe TWO. also, we are all aware that levy will be unwilling to spend big cash this season.
so some players i think would fit the bill would be, Mario Gomez, Falcao, Suarez, Dzeko, some natural goalscorers, who could get 15+ goals a season..
however, if redknapp is looking for one ‘amazing’ player, and levy could possibly be willing to pay large for one big player if we bring a lot of cash in with sales, David Villa or Fernando Torres have both stated that they would like a move away from their clubs, and well, what do they want?
champions league, thats us.
money, thats us.
premier league, thats us.
the only thing i could see getting in the way of a deal would be our wage cap..
also, i can see joe cole, mata or another out & out winger on the way to the lane,

Brad I agree with everything you said but if you think Torres will chose the lane over Barcelona or City then your dreaming. We do need another striker but it won’t be torres, falcao would be a great buy.

i think there’ll need to be more than one signing. but i’m interested in who his provisional targets are, has there been any word?

Sandro is decent but I don’t expect him to set the league ablaze next year with his form, he’ll take time to adjust. I think we’ll definitely see Bellamy at Spurs and his high fiving of Harry at Eastlands the other week was very telling.

I think they will need 3 or 4 signings for the sake of depth, but they have a good squad and perhaps they will be ok with just one big signing.
They have already signed Sandro and they may sign another defender, a Lassana Diarra type player and the ‘special’ player should be a top level striker.
I don’t know what sort of impact he can make but Spurs must be looking at players like Dzeko.
They’ll have a healthy transfer budget too….and prob sell a few Keane, Hutton etc
