Portsmouth managerial target Steve Cotterill has left Notts County after failing to commit his future to the League Two champions.
Cotterill, who is reported to be on the shortlist of candidates for the Fratton Park job, guided the Magpies to promotion after joining them in February.
However, after stalling over a contract offer to remain at Meadow Lane, the League One-bound club have now taken the deal off the table.
Cotterill has already rejected the chance to take over at Championship club Coventry City since the season ended.
Meanwhile, reports claim he held talks with Pompey administrator Andrew Andronikou on Tuesday night over taking the reins at the south coast club.
Portsmouth are on the lookout for a new manager following Avram Grant's decision to walk away from the relegated club at the end of the season.
