Jose Mourinho has dropped a strong hint that Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard could be high on his wish-list of potential new signings when he is finally confirmed as the new coach of Real Madrid.
The ex-Chelsea boss moved a step closer to taking the reins at the Spanish club after they sacked former coach Manuel Pellegrini on Wednesday evening.
Mourinho confirmed he was set to leave Internazionale after guiding the Italian club to Champions League final glory in Madrid last weekend.
The outspoken Portuguese is yet to be confirmed in the hot-seat at the Santiago Bernabeu, but that has not stopped him speaking to the Spanish media about his plans to bring success back to Madrid.
When asked specifically about Liverpool captain Gerrard and Chelsea midfielder Lampard, he told AS:"I like players at the end of his career. I love to have some players with 33 or 34 years.
"They are players who purchase and no longer recover the money, but if you get a good performance for two or three years and you've got more than enough performance.
"Both are two great players and always give everything."
Gerrard's future at Liverpool has been the subject of intense speculation following his disappointing Premier League campaign.
Meanwhile, Lampard was reportedly set to be reunited with Mourinho when he was appointed Inter boss two years ago.
The 31-year-old England international finally resolved his future after protracted negations resulted in a new long-term Chelsea contract.
Elsewhere, Mourinho has also been linked with another raid on Chelsea for left-back Ashley Cole.
