Hull City left-back Bernard Mendy has left the KC Stadium by mutual consent.

Mendy, 28, had been with the Tigers for two years after arriving on a free transfer in July 2008.

However, after making 56 appearances, the Frenchman has decided to move on following the club's relegation from the Premier League.

His departure is likely to be the first of many as the cash-strapped Tigers look to reduce their wage bill ahead of a return to the Championship.

Chairman Adam Pearson is looking to ways of reducing a £35million debt with a possible agreement with the Professional Footballers' Association to defer the wages of players recently discussed.

"Everybody at Hull City would like to thank Bernard for his efforts during his two seasons at the KC Stadium and we wish him well for the future," read a brief club statement.
