£30 million quartet is just what Mr Wenger should order
Surprisingly, Arsene Wenger is reportedly ready to splash out £30 million this summer to recruit new players as he prepares to launch yet another assault on the Premier League next season.
Wenger’s wish-list this summer consists of four players, Fulham’s veteran goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer, Everton’s Phil Jagielka, Chelsea’s Joe Cole and Lorient’s Laurent Koscielny, all of which are realistic targets. However, are they the correct players to be targeting with a £30 million transfer kitty? Personally, I don’t think so
Not to say Wenger doesn’t know what he is doing because in my opinion, the man is an Arsenal icon who has accomplished great things for the North London club since his arrival in 1996, but I, (maybe along with some other Arsenal fans reading this) feel that he is targeting the wrong players in the right positions. I for one am actually very surprised to hear that Wenger is willing to splash the cash, as he hasn’t done this in several years. Although, I sense that at least 2-3 player’s that Mr. Wenger has targeted this summer won’t adapt well into the Arsenal squad.
If I were in Wenger’s shoes as Arsenal boss, my aim would be to acquire at least four players with the £30 million transfer funds available (one of which is free) and Le Professeur has already expressed an interest in. Nevertheless, here is what I would spend the £30 million on this summer, enjoy:
Joe Hart (Manchester City)
My first protocol would be to acquire a young, talented and reliable goalkeeper and Joe Hart fits that description perfectly. He would be a definite transfer target for me without a doubt.
Arsenal suffered severely in this department last season and many will agree (along with me) that if the Gunners had a great keeper guarding the net, then they could have gone further than they did. Too many goals were conceded, and although people will say that the defence contributed to this (which evidently they did), however, its Manuel Almunia with the gloves on, and as such, needs to keep the ball out of his net…its what he’s paid for after all. Lukasz Fabianski is still young so I can’t really bad mouth the lad, but he proved with his performances last season that he lacks confidence and can’t handle pressure well, he is simply not ready.
With this all being said I would look to acquire Joe Hart from City this summer. The 23-year-old had a fantastic season on loan for Birmingham City, but is now back in Eastland’s after his long loan spell expired in May.
The shot-stopper’s future remains in the balance at City with Shay Given the obvious no.1. Hart is a great keeper who can only get better with time, and with his future unresolved, I would certainly look to buy the England international for sure. A bid of around £9 million would acquire his services, which is a real bargain in my opinion.

Personally I’d love to see hart at arsenal, he’s a quality keeper and if it wasn’t for him birmingham would not have ended up where they did. I can’t believe wenger is even considering schwarzer, he’s not all that, look what happened to him against argentina. And I know everyone is talking about szczesny for the future, but we need a keeper for now and hart fits the bill.
I would like to see jagielka at arsenal as I do want an injection of english players at arsenal, but realistically are we gonna get him for cheap, lets face it because he’s english they’ll probably up his price to around 20 million and I don’t wenger spending that much for him. So heitinga is a more realistic target, I agree with the writer that heitinga and vermaelen could be a great defensive partnership.
Kjaer looks a good player and if there is a clause in his contract then we should def get him. He’s much better than koscielny who by the way plays in the second division in france.
And if joe cole is free, then def get him as he has skill and is very talented. I would also consider getting riquelme as he is out of contract at boca juniors aqnd could be a squad good player at arsenal, I’d rather have him then denilson.

Stevey, the writers targets are realistic with the £30m Wenger has, so what are you on about?
He clearly states how much each player would cost and how much of his transfer fees he has left after every player….and their better players than Wenger’s choices for sure. good article mate, I would love to see these players at the Emirates next season.

Stevey, first of all you have no idea what your talking about, for you to say that the writers targets are unrealistic, then you must be on another planet.
Are you seriously telling where gonna get jagielka for cheap, remember he’s english and they always bump up the prices for english players, so if he gets him then he’ll need around 20 million.
Schwarzer is absolute garbage, look what happened to him against argentina, if you want him then forget about winning anything this year.
And as becker stated Koscielny plays in the second division for france so do you really think he can make that step up to the premiership. In fact it was reported that the club wanted 7 million for him.
These players will cost:
jagielka: 20 million
Koscielny: 7 million
Schwarzer: 7 million
So if anything wenger choices are unrealistic. Its typical of an arsenal fan, who always believes wenger is right even if he is wrong, you know these are realistic targets, but you have been deluded by wenger and belive he is always right. If you don’t know what your talking about then you should not even make a comment.

As much as i would love to have Joe Hart at Arsenal, i dont beleive Citeh will sell him that cheap, being a quality english prospect, and the succesor to old man Given. I would say we should be tryin to convince Buffon that he’s right it thinkin he should leave Juve, offer him a new challenge in life, and at 32 he still has plenty in the tank. and on top of that, Szcezney is a very bright prospect who should be challenging for the no.1 jersey a few years down the line.

Anyways, the article is a good one, and you have got your own opinion, but i dont think Wenger would buy these players on your list. I would love to see them at the club, but Wenger has targeted his prey and is unlikely to change his mind. good article still bro, keep up the good work.

your slightly deluded thinking arsene will spend that get real mate he never does, and you can have heitinga for 20 million.. didnt think so

Arsenal are like the fifth richest club in the world you joker, so what are you on about?…We could easily afford these players wages, agents fees etc. The fact is Wenger is too stubborn thats why we dont see players like this at our club and probably never will.

Im not quite sure where you are getting your figures from for some of these players, especially the two Everton lads.
Jolean Lescott went for 25ish mil and you think Everton would sell Jagielka and Heitinga, who are both twice the player of Lescott, for less than that figure?!? Im afraid that is fairly deluded to say the least…
However, on balance I do think you are right about getting in Hart. Arsenal badly need a reliable Keeper, and to be fair to Arsene, aside from Shay Given there arent too many about, especially in England. Joe Hart is one of the best young keepers, and while he will make a couple of mistakes he is definately worth it!
