Burnley manager Brian Laws has bolstered his attacking options as he looks to lead the Clarets back to the Premier League at the first time of asking by bringing Wolves striker Chris Iwelumo to Turf Moor.

The 31-year-old Scotland international leaves Molineux after enduring an injury-ravaged campaign with Mick McCarthy's side.

"I'm delighted to bring Chris Iwelumo to Burnley and I think he's going to be a fantastic addition," said Laws.

"Chris isn't a gamble, he's proven in the Championship and has been promoted four times. He's also averaged about 15 goals a season which tells you he can play.

"His link-up play and knowledge of the game are great and he'll be fantastic for the dressing room. He's a winner and we want winners at this football club. He can give us something different which we haven't got at this club.

"People might suggest Steven Thompson is exactly the same, but let me tell you he's not. They are different types of players and we need to bring in the best possible players who know how to get out of this division.

"Chris' arrival isn't going to change the way we play. People might say he's a big target-man and therefore we're going to go route one.

"However, in all my managerial career I've never gone route one. I've always wanted to maintain good football and players who will adapt to that, which Chris can certainly do without question."
