Spurs starlet highlights the cold reality

It is not long since then Crystal Palace starlet was under the microscope of all the top clubs who saw a career that offered so much promise.

However, two years on and now at Tottenham, the youngster is publically bemoaning the huge influx of foreign players in the top-flight who block his path, which lends itself to suggest that under the surface of the Premier League’s beauty there lays a grim reality.

Despite playing a major part in under 19’s squad success, come August 14th when the season kicks off, he will undoubtedly be cast aside meaning the chance to prove himself will remain a distant prospect.

of Everton is a prime example of how a young career can come to fruition when given the chance, but the increased pressure on managers to deliver means that most simply cannot take the risk when it comes to blooding players such as Bostock. This is perhaps underpinned by Tottenham’s success last season with a team that included plenty of expensive foreign talent.

Bostock is unconvinced by the Premier League’s new rule which states that clubs must have at least eight home-grown players in their 25-man squads claiming that “It just means we will be sitting on the bench” and feels his only option is to go out on loan to in order to gain first team football as he did last season with Brentford.

Maybe it is time to sacrifice the quality of the Premier League in order to give English youngsters a chance?

The has allowed youngsters such as Mesut Ozil to flourish on the big stage for Germany with regular first-team football for Werder Bremen at the age of 21 whereas Bostock feels he might have to wait another three years before getting his chance.

A Germany side that included 6 of the U21 squad that defeated in the final of the U21 European Championship demolished a more experienced in the World Cup and this is no doubt due to valuable experience being gained on the domestic scene.

The likes of Khedira, Ozil, Boateng, Neuer played regular football for their German clubs in the build up to the competition, quite a contrast to the season which Tottenham’s youngster and his U19 team-mates face – ultimately one which will stifle their progression to stardom.

FFS Does it really matter? Once every two years, there’s a little knock-about competition for the national teams. Lasts a few weeks. And the people in the stands dont really care! Their team’s losing, but stick the camera on them and its all dancing and smiles.

Real, sustained, life-devotion comes at club level. And if he’s not good enough for the squad, he needs to work. End of story!

AND you can’t sacrifice the level of the Premier League, you’d never be successful in Europe. I’m sick of this nationalistic prioritisation over club teams, who keep the game going.

FURTHER (sorry, I know, my own voice) there is no link between having a weak league and being successful. Look at Spain. It’s in the youth coaching. The Spanish kids are largely better than anything that can be brought in, due to the coaching.

I cant uderstand why we are trumpeting the Germans . They never intended to play there youngsters it was a combination of injury’s and players being to old . This forced Germany into drafting them in early . We got beat 4-0 by there under 21 but we suffered from Huddlestone missing and Joe Heart they would not have won our under 21 with Swiensteiger and Neuer missing . England have this mentality they have to pick one player from the top teams man utd Liverpool and Chelsea. We had the most English players of all the clubs yet we had one player against the Germans and we had Upson Terry Cole Johnson played like strangers Terry was never going to see Gerrard lift the Cuo. We let wallcott Hudds Dawson Lennon Rodwell all at home or on the bench . Peter Taylor would pick four or five from the same team our under 19 had two players from Spurs yet Mason Townsend Parret Bostock Caulker could have played. Spain had five from Barca and 3 from Madrid in there Team and they played like a team . Our youngsters where playing in America to fill in for our World cup players. Bostock should have stayed on our bench when he starred in his cameo role.

How can Bostock moan about not playing first team football? If he had not gone for the bigger money he would have been playing first team football week in week out for Palace and devolping along side the likes of Victor Moses and Nathanial Clyne (both tipped to be the next England Stars). Bostock ruined his career by moving to Spuds and I have no sympathy for him.

I gotta say i agree with the above comments. . .BUT
You gotta understand and appreciate how frustrating it must be for our youth players. Theyre told to graft and train hard but when a position is ‘open’ the first thing coaches and fans scream is “sign some1!!”
And how many useless foreign players have been drafted in to the prem taking up space?
The English prem is ‘Big Business’ and I truly believe it has a negative effect on our youth players.

Wait another three more years? You mean when he turns 21… like Ozil?!?

Ozil made a total of 30 appearances for Schalke 04 from 2006-2008

He should have stayed at Palace – the team he ‘supports’ – and gained invaluable 1st team action. Now he’s saying the “dream” os to play for Spurs, it was only 2 years ago his “dream” was to be Palace’s youngest captain! How 2 years of short-term income and stupid haircuts changes a young man’s mind! Shame he doesn’t have the bottle to graft to learn his trade. See you working in B&Q in 5 years John!

John Bostock has a bad attitude and causes friction in squads with his hubris. He was badly advised by his step-dad to take a quick payout instead of a long career. It’s your own fault JB, enjoy that dwindling bucket of cash whilst you still can!

Bostocks comments make me laugh, he is moaning about foreigners, but in his position at spurs. which is midfield there is no chance he would get past O’Hara, Tommy Thudd, Bentley, Lennon even Jenas!!! all English players so i cant see what the arrogant little sh*ts problem is. How about instead of moaning you get your head down and work harder!!!!!
