Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has given a downbeat assessment on his chances of keeping Fernando Torres at Anfield.
New boss Hodgson is hoping the Spain striker follows the example set by captain Steven Gerrard, who recently pledged his future to the club despite being linked with a summer transfer.
Torres is reported to be wanted by both Chelsea and Barcelona following the disappointment which has followed last season's seventh place in the Premier League.
Hodgson met with Torres last week but has revealed that the striker has issues with the club which pre-date his arrival earlier in the summer.
"Unfortunately, I cannot do much more," Hodgson said in the News of the World.
"His beef is with the club and not me.
"Fernando's situation has nothing to do with me, he made that perfectly clear over the phone during the World Cup and when I met him face-to-face.
"He knows what I would like to do with the club. He knows how much I value him.
"But his issues are with what has gone on in the past rather than the future.
"If he has problems with the club for things in the past, it is difficult for me to dismiss that."

TORRES is STILL a Liverpool player since he is under contract with Liverpool.
Torres IS NOT FOR SALE as Hodgson said before. So, where is the problem?
It is not a question whether Torres WANTS to go,
It is a question whether Liverpool bosses want to sell him!And we Liverpool
FANS DO NOT WANT the bosses to sell him and that’s all there is to it.

In an ideal world we would have the money to buy cover for Nando and keep him, but the fact is, he is chronically injury prone now and will never play a full season again. Selling him would benefit the team no end. Keeping him for the 15 games a season we would get out of him is not worth it, however much a hero he is. With the money from him and the traitor Masch we could go shopping instead of looking for free transfers and prospects on the cheap.

I tend to agree with Greg, but if LFC sell him it should be under the same terms as Heinze(ex Man U),’NOT AVAILABLE TO ANY PREMIERSHIP CLUB’. In his first season he was fantastic but I believe his injuries were caused through over-stretching(groin/hamstring/adductor).He will probably be plagued with those injuries in the future!!! So it may be good business to let him go.Barcelona would be most suitable!!!
