Bob Bradley appears to have taken himself out of the running to become the new manager of Aston Villa after extending his contract as United States national team coach.

Bradley, 52, had emerged as a possible successor to Martin O'Neill at the Midlands club after the Northern Irishman's surprise departure on the eve of the new season.

Villa's American owner Randy Lerner was reported to be interested in offering Bradley the chance to manage in the Premier League.

Bradley himself suggested he would be interested in talking to Lerner about a move into club management.

However, Bradley has now agreed a new deal with the US Soccer Federation which will keep him at the helm of the national team until 2014.

"US Soccer has agreed to a contract extension with US men's national team head coach Bob Bradley," confirmed a statement from the federation.

"The agreement with Bradley, who guided the US team to numerous achievements including finishing in first place in their group at the 2010 FIFA World Cup for the first time in 80 years, will keep him at the helm through the end of 2014."
