Celtic boss Neil Lennon is closing in on the capture of the former Basel and AEK Athens defender Daniel Majstorovic.

The 33-year-old Sweden international, who played for his country in Wednesday's friendly win against Scotland, is set to pen a two-year deal at Parkhead.

He told the Daily Record:"Celtic wanted someone to take control at the back and they see me as a player who can do that.

"The dialogue I've had with the club tells me they've been searching for a player to control things in the defence so it feels great they see me as that man.

"The economic situation was tough (at AEK Athens). There wasn't really any talk that something was about to happen but when this came up it was a solution which suited both parties."

Lennon has money to spend after Aiden McGeady sealed his £10million move to Spartak Moscow.
