Everton assistant manager Steve Round has moved to end speculation that a swap deal was being lined up involving Steven Pienaar and Tottenham Hotspur striker Peter Crouch.

Morning press reports had suggested that the Toffees could allow South Africa international Pienaar to move on, with his current contract set to run out at the end of the season and talks over a new deal having stalled.

However, Round has rubbished talk of a deal to bring England international Crouch to Goodison Park being in the offing.

He said:"The manager has said all along he wants Steven to stay.

"He is under contract and as far as we are concerned he will be an Everton player this season. There is no truth in the speculation.

"Steven has been a terrific player for us and is a terrific asset."
