England midfielder James Milner is hoping Paul Scholes can be persuaded to come out of international retirement.

The new Manchester City signing was part of the England World Cup squad which the Manchester United veteran declined an invitation to come out of international retirement to join.

Scholes has started the new Premier League season in impressive fashion and once again finds himself fielding questions about whether, at the age of 35, he will considering playing for the Three Lions again.

England manager Fabio Capello has remained tight-lipped on the subject ahead of the start of Euro 2012 qualifying next week.

However, Milner would relish the chance to line-up alongside Scholes.

"Paul Scholes is a top player," he explained."As someone lucky enough to be an England player and an England fan you want the best players out there.

"He has been one of the best midfielders in the Premier League since it started.

"It is down to England and the manager but to get the chance to play with him would be unbelievable.

"He is still doing it now, which is a testament to his professionalism and how well he has looked after himself.

"If he came into the England set-up again it would be fantastic."
