Blackpool's pre-season has gone from bad to worse after Keith Southern suffered medial knee ligament damage during the friendly defeat at Bristol City.

Southern will have a scan on Monday amid fears that he could be out of action for several months. The Seasiders midfielder had to be stretchered off the pitch at the end of the 2-0 defeat.

Last month it was confirmed that Billy Clarke will play no football this term because of the knee injury he suffered during the opening pre-season friendly against Tiverton Town.

Meanwhile, Ian Holloway has admitted defeat in his attempt to bring Everton youngster Seamus Coleman back to Bloomfield Road.

The 21-year-old has been in outstanding pre-season form for the Toffees, and Holloway admitted:"I think I've got two hopes (of bringing him back here) – one of them is Bob, the other is no.

"He's playing so well that David Moyes won't want to let him go. I've asked him, I've left messages, I've spoken to Moyesy's brother (agent Kenny, with whom the Charlie Adam deal was done last year), so I'm trying all I can.

"However, I think the honest answer is probably no. But I've got other targets I'm waiting on as well."
