Shaun Wright-Phillips has vowed to fight for his place in the face of fierce competition at Manchester City.

The England international slipped down the pecking order during the second half of the last campaign at the City of Manchester Stadium.

City boss Roberto Mancini has since spent over £120million on new players during a record-breaking summer, which has led to suggestions that players like Wright-Phillips, Emmanuel Adebayor and wantaway record signing Robinho could all struggle to make first-team appearances.

However, Wright-Phillips has no plans to seek a move with just days remaining in the summer transfer window.

He pledged:“I don’t believe in quitting. I have always wanted to stay and there’s no reason to go.

“The club want me to stay, too, and the challenge for me now is to help City achieve the goals they want to achieve.

“I don’t think about being on the bench, I think about playing my part even if it does mean coming on to clear one off the line.

“I’m excited about all the players coming in. We learn from each other, there is great banter and great team spirit.

“We all give something different to the team and there will be times when we are all needed in different parts of the game.”
