Blackburn Rovers boss Sam Allardyce is set to offer free agent striker Benjani Mwaruwari a contract at Ewood Park.

The Zimbabwe striker has been training with Rovers since being released by Manchester City at the end of last season.

The 32-year-old former Auxerre, Portsmouth and Sunderland striker has done enough during his time at the club to persuade Allardyce that he deserves a contract.

"We are trying to sign him on a contract because of his wealth of experience," he revealed.

"He has trained with us a few days. He has shown us enough that we think he will be okay to play for us in the Premier League, so we are trying to sort something out."
