Wolves have re-signed Michael Mancienne from Chelsea on a season-long loan deal.

The 22-year-old defender has spent time on loan at Molineux in each of the last two seasons and will again be part of Mick McCarthy's squad this term.

The England Under-21 international first helped the club secure promotion from the Championship during the 2008/09 campaign, before making 30 league appearances as they retained their top-flight status last season.

Mancienne could make the first appearance of his latest loan spell against Newcastle United on Saturday.

"We know the quality he's got and it's great to have him back," McCarthy told the club's official website.

"He made 30-odd appearances for us in the league last season and did very well.

"He's also very versatile and can operate in different positions, which is a big help to any manager."
