The transfer dealings at the Emirates

The transfer window always reminds me of Christmas. Full of expectation, excitement and then suddenly it becomes something an anti-climax once it is over. Some are happy with their presents, while others are left seething at the lack of effort that was put in. City fans are undoubtedly happy with their lot this summer, although others are bound to be disappointed.

It has been a relatively quiet transfer window as clubs remain cautious with their transfer spending, given the current climate. Chairman may have had little option but to be prudent, but it doesn’t stop supporters feeling slightly disappointed that a few more gambles haven’t taken place. Surprisingly a lot of managers have actually been sympathetic towards the situation, highlighting the curse of high wages that has made transfer dealings all the more difficult, rather than bemoaning the lack of backing from their club chairman. While others have simply made the best out of the stagnant transfer market, negotiated well and brought in some real bargains.

So how has Arsenal’s transfer window been and have you been happy, or disappointed, by the progress that has been made? Has Arsene Wenger done enough to ensure that Arsenal will be challenging for honours this season?

    Its a disgrace that we haven’t signed a keeper in the two months the window has been open.

    Wenger must go, out of touch with what we need to challenge and insult to fans who pay fortune every week. Just where does all the cash go !!!

    @Robbo
    Just how much is the “fortune” YOU pay every week? Is that at the bookies or actually going to the Emirates to support the team?

    Where does the cash go? Back to the banks to pay for our shiny new stadium… what part of that do you not understand???

    And by the way, who are we as fans to think we know “what we need” to succeed? We need to just get on with supporting the club and not try to run it too!

    It is obvious AW tried to buy a goalie but failed… He has my full support for refusing to throw money at the problem. Just support the team or go elsewhere!!!

    Every great team has had a great goalie, we cannot reach the heights Arsene aspires to with what we have, we needed to spend more money on the problem, and we can afford it even with he stadium. I will still give the team 100% support from the seat I pay for but it will be with the knowledge it could have been better.

    @ The New Invincibles – Wake up and smell the coffee – Everyone who has watched Arsenal over the last couple of years is in agreement that we need a new keeper. Wenger does know best – he knows how to make money for the club and protect his own place there. Do you think the board would have offered him a new 3 year contract if he had been badgering them for big money for some big name players? To the board a top 4 finish and a couple of cups runs is sufficient to service our debts and make a profit – thats the bottom line. Wenger knows he is as safe as houses here just so long as he tows the party line. If he was that ambitious to win the CL he could have gone to Madrid and had the money behind him to have a real crack at it. But no – he chose to stay at “safe” Arsenal where his money making is as respected as his coaching ability. Don’t be fooled by this nonsense of paying for the shiny new stadium – we were once told that this move would secure our position in the top echelons by allowing us the financial muscle to compete with Manu and Chelsea but now its suddenly this albatross around our neck hindering our chances of buying decent players?? can’t have it all ways???
