The transfer dealings at St James Park

The transfer window always reminds me of Christmas. Full of expectation, excitement and then suddenly it becomes something an anti-climax once it is over. Some are happy with their presents, while others are left seething at the lack of effort that was put in. City fans are undoubtedly happy with their lot this summer, although others are bound to be disappointed.

It has been a relatively quiet transfer window as clubs remain cautious with their transfer spending, given the current climate. Chairman may have had little option but to be prudent, but it doesn’t stop supporters feeling slightly disappointed that a few more gambles haven’t taken place. Surprisingly a lot of managers have actually been sympathetic towards the situation, highlighting the curse of high wages that has made transfer dealings all the more difficult, rather than bemoaning the lack of backing from their club chairman, while others have simply made the best out of the stagnant transfer market, negotiated well and brought in some real bargains.

So how has Newcastle’s transfer window been and have you been happy, or disappointed, by the progress that has been made? Has Chris Hughton done enough to ensure that the Magpies will progress this season? Do you foresee any last minute deals in the last 24hrs of the transfer window?

I think Ben Arfa will be a great injection and Tiote may prove him self as a good DM. I trust Hughton knows what he´s doing.

I’m happy with the dealings in the transfer market by Hughton- I wasn’t expecting anything after the statement of “intent” back in May mind! As long as there isn’t a bombshell tomorrow like Carroll or Enrique being sold then it will be a great window! I think Steven Taylor may be gone tomorrow though! A striker and left back cover would be nice come 6pm but I think we may be done until January!

Ashley has always been a shrewd businessman…. The future is bright for NUFC, I can see us challenging for Europa League in a couple of years under CH… If we can attract a manger like Wenger, we could do a Tottenham… For me Nolan is our biggest asset… He has pulled that squad into a team with Smith ofcourse.. They can help CH big time with Ben Arfa.. Just one question though, where is he going fit in, who’s losing out?

I think that Newcastle United’s dealings this year, as compared to previous years, have been extremely shrewd, cautious, and good!

Players like Sol Campbell add experience to the team, and Ben Arfa, Gosling, and Perch add youth and flair.

I’m very happy on the guys we brought in. We added some veteran experience and a lot of fresh young lads who are looking to prove themselves. It’s going to be a very exciting season.

Firstly I’d like to say well done to Chris Hughton and Big Mike as I doubted them but as the window draws near, it’s fair to say they’ve done brilliantly. I’d like to see Robbie Keane added in the final 24 hours although the signals are we might be against a deal. But if he was to join that would leave us with a strong squad and starting 11 of Harper Perch Williamson Coloccini Enrique Ben Arfa Barton Nolan Jonas Keane Carroll which could potentially compete for the top half.

I’ve never really had any doubt about Mike Ashley, when all the fans were bemoaning everything that happend in the past I could understand where he was coming from.

The appointment of Chris Hughton was a srewed move, and where someone on the comments above said we could do with a Wenger… I think you might find we actually have one of the best future managers around right now.

Chris Hughton and Mike Ashley have done wonders for the club, Mikes policy is getting the club onto a safe financial footing and ensuring the long term stability of the club and I am certain that in time he will win the vast majority of the fans back around.

The players they’re bringing in are players who are wanting to play for the club, no-one who wants a big pay packet is going to come to us or stay put because they know they won’t get it.

Therefore the players coming are coming because of footballing reasons and that can only be good for the club long term.

Yes we might not win the Champions League in the next few years but 5,6,7 or 8 years down the line who knows?

The way I see football going is a new policy being bought in to make all clubs run at a profit, with a set maximum amount of cash injection that can be put into a club each fiscal year and a cap on the number of senior players allowed on a clubs books to stop clubs (such as Man City) player hoarding in order to stop other sides getting quality players.

Personally I think Ashley is setting some strong foundations for Newcastle and he may yet see a significant return on his initial investment.

All I ask is that the fans, the board and the press give Chris Hughton time and by time I mean significant time.

Alex Ferguson came very close to getting the sack at Man U and then everything suddenly came together, stability is going to be key to the Newcastle United future and if it is to be a bright future for us we must have long term stability!

We can’t afford to buy Keane unfortunatley… He also doesn’t fit into the bracket of the type of player we’re looking to buy and apparently he doesn’t want to be loaned out.
Routledge is big outlet for the team.. I don’t think he could live with a bench start, given his past, neither could Jonas.. That’s not ignoring Tiote, Gosling, Simpson and Campbell… Life is being made easy for CH at the moment.. I truly want Campbell and S. Taylor to work together so he can learn a bit from top class PLeague defender.. R. Taylor is another problem… he has qualities but isn’t a top class defender… I would say sell, but it hurts… Maybe we’ll get lucky and keep geting injuries, forcing rotation..
I still don’t know whether we’ve stumbled on to this “TEAM” or CH made it… I’m just happy to see it
