Argentina midfielder Javier Mascherano has hit out at Liverpool after finally sealing his move away from Anfield.

The 26-year-old has joined Barcelona in a deal worth in the region of £17million, amid talk of his family being unhappy with life on Merseyside.

However, Mascherano insists that he left due to promises to him being broken by the Reds.

He told The Guardian:"Roy Hodgson knows the truth. This is a happy moment for me, so now is not the time to say it, but a lot of lies have been told about me and I will respond to them.

"When they started to involve my family and to say things that didn't make sense, I obviously suffered.

"They'd promised me something for a whole year and they never fulfilled their promise. And that didn't have anything to do with my family or anything else.

"When you read or hear lies, you obviously get angry."

what a d!ck-head!! It was him and his agent that brought his family into the whole saga – Liverpool FC is a football club so the emotions of his family would have been irrelevant to anybody but Mascherano himself!

I know that footballers have a reputation for being dumb, but ignoring the fact that the manager that would have made the “promise” to him had moved on, how on earth did he expect Liverpool to fulfil a promise to sell him when the transfer window wasn’t even open and then when an offer hadn’t been received??

In any case, surely his agent must see the irony and understand that written legal documents, such as contracts, are more recognisable as a promise to fulfil an obligation than a verbal communication with somebody that has no authority to make such a promise?? I for one am glad to see the back of the over-rated little gimp and can’t wait to see his limitations exposed in a team that demands more than “work-rate”
