East End rock giants Iron Maiden were formed in Leyton in 1975 and are still going strong. Founding member and bassist Steve Harris played for the West Ham youth team and can often be seen with a West Ham badge on his bass. Fender even released a limited edition Claret and Blue ‘Steve Harris Signature Precision Bass’ in 2001. Maiden also frequently use the slogan ‘Up The Irons’ on both CD sleeves and T-shirts, an obvious reference to both the band themselves and Harris’ love, West Ham. Having played to millions worldwide, what better publicity tool is there for the Hammers?
