After a crushing derby day defeat, Sunderland will be desperate to put things right against a Stoke side themselves without a win in three.

Tony Pulis has so far been reluctant to start new signings Jermaine Pennant and Eidur Gudjohnsen, however in a game that the Potters must get something out of he may feel compelled to break up his established crew of starters.

Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn and top goal scorer Darren Bent felt compelled to apologise for last weekend’s display against Newcastle, expect a fired up Black Cats to make it four defeats on the bounce for Tony Pulis’ men.
