THREE United players that I’m happy to see leave in January

With the transfer window fast approaching and Manchester United starting to hit form, rocking the boat might seem a little strange. However, there are still a few issues at Old Trafford that need to be resolved. There are three players that could be sold off in January to make way for better players, or players that will offer a bit more to the squad. We look at one Manchester United fan’s opinion on three players that should be sold this Janaury. You do not have to agree.

Gabriel Obertan

The French winger is not good enough to play for Manchester United. He has offered the club very little since his arrival from Bordeaux and with Valencia returning after Christmas why do Manchester United need to keep him? In the Carling Cup this season he hardly shined against Scunthorpe or Wolves and has looked out of his depth against Premiership defenders. Obertan has pace, and that is a great asset in the Premier League, but he has nothing to go with it. He has a poor first touch and his delivery into the box is erratic. He scored a superb goal against Bursaspor in the Champions League, but apart from that what else has he done? Gabriel Obertan is another David Bellion and Manchester United should cash in come January.

Wes Brown

The Manchester United defender’s time at the club has probably come to an end. He has been a loyal servant to the club but does he possess the ability to warrant a first team place? The answer is no, so why keep the lad? At the start of his career, terrible injuries plagued him – had they not occurred I doubt this would be an issue. Manchester United have settled on a right back, have invested heavily in young centre backs, clearly Wes Brown’s time at the club is at an end. He is still Premier League quality, and could rejuvenate his career elsewhere. Playing football is better than sitting on the bench and Brown should opt to play football. Manchester United fans would be far happier to see Evans and Smalling battle it out for third choice centre half ahead of Brown.

Owen Hargreaves

Six months ago I never thought I would write something like that. Just to clarify one thing. Manchester United fans would not want to see the back of Owen Hargreaves, but it’s time for Sir Alex Ferguson to end his Manchester United career. In a couple of weeks I could be proven totally wrong, but after the last six months I fear I wont be. After Owen Hargreaves’ break down against Wolves in November how long can Manchester United wait? Will he ever be calm enough to be selected to play? Will it all get on top of him again – will the stress make another injury more likely? For the player himself how many set backs can he have? Sure, being told his Manchester United career was over would be tough, but what would another set back do for his mindset? Owen Hargreaves was a fantastic purchase for Manchester United and did the club proud. However, this January I feel it’s time for Sir Alex Ferguson to say enough is enough. Manchester United need clarity on the situation, I sincerely hope I am wrong but I don’t believe we will see Owen Hargreaves play in a United shirt again.

I 2nd that!!!!!!!! Obertan needs more time on the pitch. Many young players who came to United were not good enough in the beginning to play for United. However, the system eventually made them into who they are or weeded them out. That is the beauty of Manchester United, players who are taught to play to their standards.

I will not say Obertan is new Figo or Ronaldo but…do you know how hard is to come back from knee injuries? So give him a time.

Tom Costello HATES Gabi Obertan, though, clearly, Fergie rates him. How many skillful left sided players do we have? Especially ones that can also play through the middle? He also can keep the ball when needed. I think he needs an extended run with Park out and saving Giggs for the crucual games.

The fact that Gibson is not on your list is one distinct example of what a total idiot you are. Then to match that you Gabby Obertan on there who if anything is starting to make good strides at United following his unfortunate injuries.

Tom I hope you did not get paid for this article is all I can say!

Please never publish an article again whether it be profesionally or amateur.

    Wes Brown too….WTF!

A fine testament to why they should not let any idiot post their opinions on the internet. Obertan has hardly had a chance and you have already written him off. Try watching him play for the reserves and you can see him getting better at a good pace. If you get rid of the youth what happens to the future of the club? I suppose you would just prefer us to pay over the top for another overrated player?

That is why Sir Alex gets paid a hell of a lot more than you do and is still massively irreplaceable, he actually knows what he is talking about.

This guy is a prat. As many discerning football fans have indicated, a dozen games is hardly enough to justify success or failure. I have watched him ( Obertan ) for the reserves too and also prior to his injury/transfer to Utd and I see exactly what Fergie saw – that is where my comparing myself with Fergie ends !
He actually reminds me a hell of a lot of Thierry Henry at Monaco all those years ago. Similar qualities and back then as a left winger Henry’s finishing was abysmal. Didn’t do too bad though in the end did he !
Brown – just be quiet muppet – judging on performances this season Evans should be the one who’s worried – I don’t think Johnny has done himself any favours at all with Rio giving him plenty of opportunities. However – once again – way too soon to get rid of him either.
Owen Hargreaves – a complete travesty for the lad and club alike – we all know how good he is and whilst we need to cut his wages, why not – if he manages to get back on the pitch before May – give him a pay-as-you play contract for another 12 months – but also bring in a replacement – Gibson great shot but that’s not enough!
Great to sign Anderson again – he’s got so much energy and go-forward – just hope his passing and in particular his shooting improves with age.

I disagred with u on Obertan because dis guy hardly been giving enough chance on d pitch.i wonder why d likes of evans, hagreaves and oshe’a were not included in d list, when vidic first came to United i recollect he was somehow useless because he couldn’t match d fitness of epl then but he’s now grown to become d heart of our defence.what i’m saying is that hagreaves should go,brown stay an give obertan more playing time!!!

Of the three players mentioned, i think Obertan should be given more time. A loan move may be a good option. To me, Gibson should be the player to leave OT alongside Hargreaves $ michael owen.
