Villarreal are the latest team to have joined the race for Liverpool’s Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva.
Other teams also said to be interested are fellow La Liga sides Malaga and Sevilla, both of whom are rumoured to be preparing bids of around €10 million for the midfielder.
Lucas never really won over fans at Anfield since his £12.6 million switch from Brazilian side Gremio in 2007. Despite his inconsistent form, Lucas has only failed to complete 90 minutes in the league on seven occasions this season.
Roy Hodgson is keen to bring in a new striker and put his own mark on the team, so having some extra cash for his transfer kitty could help him pursue other targets Gervinho and Ricky Van Wolfswinkel.
