FIVE things we learnt from Newcastle United this afternoon

It was a case of déjà vu for Newcastle at St James’ Park today as for the second time in a week Alan Pardew’s men were denied all three points by an injury time equaliser. Last week it was Sunderland’s Asamoah Gyan who spoiled the party, and Tottenham’s Aaron Lennon took on that role today as Newcastle drew 1-1 with Spurs.

After a fairly tight first half, Newcastle went ahead just before the hour mark as Fabricio Coloccini chested down a Danny Guthrie cross-field pass and slammed it into the back of the net. Tottenham had a fair amount of possession without creating a great deal, and first Peter Lovenkrands, then Shola Ameobi and finally Nile Ranger had a chance to make it 2-0, before the inevitable happened and Lennon went down the other end in stoppage time to equalise.

So what were the FIVE things we learnt about Newcastle today?

1 – we need to learn how to hold onto a lead
2 – scoring the second goal seems to be a big issue
3 – colo is amazing, great goal and could have had a second after busting a gut to get forward if shola could pass
4 – simpson is tentative going forward and should have showed lennon down the line
5 – with guthrie injured we defo need cover in the middle of the park

to be fair we did hold onto our lead but where these referees find 4,5 minutes to add onto a game i will never know:

    1. We need to either learn to hold onto a leader or kill off a game
    2. Despite the injuries and suspensions we have we are still capable of holding a top team to a draw
    3. We are down to the bear bones- get your wallet out Ashley!
    4. Coloccini is getting better each game
    5. Ameobi and Ranger need to learn how to score goals!

    1. We have a stronger squad than we first thought.

    2. Ranger is a great player for the future, but needs to get on the training ground and practice shooting.

    3. Guthrie can play very good, and is more than decent back-up player.

    4. We need another striker

    5. Jonas can play well when he can be bothered

1- Shola cant hold a ball up with his back to goal
2- Barton isn’t quite as magnificent as assumed
3- We really need a poacher to play with Carroll when he’s back
4- Coloccini is outstanding in all areas of the pitch
5- Tino has still got it (despite his slip)

    1) We should kill the game with a SECOND GOAL (our problem for years) OR
    2) We should keep the ball WHEN we are leading
    3) Jonas can cross and definitely his best game on a black and white shirt
    4) Collocini volley for the goal is 10 times better than any Ameobi’s effort in the last 3 games
    5) We need a younger and better striker to replace AGEING Ameobi
