Pienaar’s arrival set to pave the way for Tottenham exit?
So whose place on the bench will Steven Pienaar warm?
For the first time in many years Tottenham have a wealth of talented midfielders at their disposal to more than cover every position. It seems an extremely strange signing unless Pienaar has been brought in to pave the way for the departure of one of Spurs first team players?
Pienaar by all accounts seems a model professional who has performed well under the guidance of David Moyes to become an integral part of the Everton team. The player was out of contract at the end of the season and offers are thought to have been tabled from top European clubs, in addition to Spurs and Chelsea. With such interest, the player must have been given certain assurances by Redknapp that he would be given a starting role in the Spurs line-up. Which poses the question, for whom?
On the left Bale has become a key figure in the Spurs midfield, as has Modric who has been a revelation in the central midfield role this season. Lennon has been much preferred to Kranjcar and Bentley on the right and VDV has cemented his place off of the main striker. So unless Redknapp intends to have the smallest, most vulnerable central midfield partnership in the league it would seem someone from the first team will be on their way.
For me Pienaar is a great player but a return of 12 goals from 132 appearances from an attacking midfielder suggests he is not an adequate replacement for any of these first team players. Pienaar is only a marginal improvement on the promising players Spurs already have at their disposal to come off the bench like Kranjcar, Gio, Sandro and Townsend whose first-team chances will now be even more limited.
What are your thoughts, will Pienaar be a bench warmer or does his arrival pave the way for the highly anticipated exit of one of Spurs most valuable assets?

Pienaar is not an out and out attacking midfielder. He is more in the mold of Modric. That was quite obvious in their game against us. He gets a ton of work done, and is creative. I would love him to play on the left and strike up a partnership with Bale, like he did at Everton with Bainse.

Harry will play 4-5-1 with the supposed new super striker we are yet to sign …..

i’m assuming rednapp must have recieved a back hander from pienaars agent, why because spurs have some of the best midfielders in the country and pienaar is not better than most of them, he wil be sorry that he left everton as hewill spend more time on the benh than on the field, what a silly little greedy boy

it’s apparent by the fact he hasn’t cost much that he’s gonna be a squad player, however, he ain’t that bad as he ran the show when everton played the arse&all a while back.

I wouldn’t mind us giving Bale @LB & Pienaar @LM, if it don’t work just go back to BAE I think that could really give us great overlapping ability

This signing has caused more problems than we need. The radio commentaors was saying they think Lennon will be sold i hope no i would not agree withthat one bit. The age of Lennon to Pienaar this would be madness and Lennon has the one thing that is rare in Football blistering speed . His form suffered because of his groin and Hernia problems through all the bad tackles he received. He is still carrying this injury but up to now he is managing it. The person who could be going is Modric to Madrid for 30 million and we get Benzamar.we will have to wait and see who we will be selling for another small midfielder one unhappy Spurs fan till the window closes and we see who is benched .We are losing our English players and that is sad . This rush for players is because Harry is heading for the England’s job next season

Spurs have been crying out for a left medfield for many many years, now we have two. By playing Bale week in, week out, we are in danger of not getting the best of out of him as the season wear’s on because of tiredness or god forbid, he gets injured. Pienaar’s signing is strategic as he, like Kranjar, can play all over midfield and has proven premiership experience. Harry is no mug and choose’s his players wisely…
VDV for £8m and Pienaar for £3m quid, Its good business.

What harry will like about him is his pace all defenders hate to be run at this guy is quick and will provide cover and competition for lennon and bale. With the amount of games coming up injury’s will happen so it kinda makes some sense, i think Kranjcar will be sold if a decent bid comes in. For me I worry that I seem to be the only Spurs fan worried about our defence, we conside far far to many goals against very average sides…….please can someone buy two yes two quality center backs and a goalie who can take a croos and catch the ball. rant over.

I thought i was the only spurs fan in the land that could see Gomez is a liability. agree also with your other comments, dont know if two central defenders are needed but one for sure
