Some refreshing honesty coming out of Chelsea

Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard is usually a voice of reason at Stamford Bridge, which is something that the fans appreciate, especially as he speaks sense and is usually pretty honest with his opinions.

The 32-year-old has recently admitted that the players have not worked hard enough to halt their recent decline and says that the current slide is reminiscent to the one suffered under Luiz Felipe Scolari:

“There was a time like this near the end of the Luiz Felipe Scolari reign when we were struggling to get wins. Everyone has spells like that to an extent but this one has been a little more prolonged over a period of time.

“That’s the upsetting thing. It is certainly time for us to change it now. Not winning games is the biggest thing that has affected us.

“There are quite a few reasons for that, a lack of confidence being one of them, but there has also been a lack of quality and work-rate. We need to step it up across the board to get back to where we want to be.”

He added:

“Everyone at Chelsea understands we’re not expected to have the run of results we’ve had. We have high standards and the results we’ve had the last two months is not the level we expect.

“The league games coming up are very important and we need to take the spirit and energy we showed against Ipswich, which has maybe been lacking before, into the next few matches.”(ESPN)

Lampard has been a spectator for most of the season through injury, but it’s nice to see some honesty from a player as it has been the more established stars that have let us down during the current slump in form, like Didier Drogba, Florent Malouda, Michael Essien and Ashley Cole (in my opinion they haven’t lived up to their own high standards).

The apparent lack of effort and desire has been something that has bugged me recently, it is also worrying that our stars are looking so jaded as they’ve been playing so many games without rest, due to a shallow squad. I’m of the opinion we should spend this month (wisely) and use the young lads some more, if they are to be the backup then they should be used as such.

Fair play to Frank to hold his hands up on behalf of his team mates, but what do the fans think about what Lampard had said?
