No-one can accuse Arsenal of not doing their bit
Irony is not a word often used in football. When you think back to Arsene Wenger’s earlier days of Vieira, Petit, Henry and Pires, to name but a few, Arsenal fans could never escape the stigma of being called ‘The French National side’, however, it could be argued that Wenger now holds the Three Lions that will lead England to long over-due success; in Jack Wilshere, Theo Walcott and Kieran Gibbs.
The emergence of Jack Wilshere as a key first team player for club (and now, perhaps, the player to officially end the Gerrard and Lampard ‘partnership’ that has never quite worked for England) is a credit to Wenger and his philosophies. Wenger has always argued that if the English players were worth buying for reasonable prices, then he would be first in line. For years, Wenger plucked future stars from all over the globe whilst ignoring the English talent, so when Wenger paid £10 million for Theo Walcott, eyebrows were raised; but few doubted that he would one day be special. Admittedly, Walcott’s progression hasn’t been as quick as the ever improving Wilshere, but he has now appeared to have edged out the the ‘mis-firing’ Andrei Arshavin. Wilshere’s tenacity and vision combined with Walcott’s blistering pace and ever improving goals and assist ratio demonstrates that the prospects for England are exciting, to say the very least.
Arsenal’s contribution to England’s future doesn’t end there. Kieran Gibbs, a pacey, talented and exciting left back, has been dubbed ‘the next Ashley Cole’; and whether an Arsenal fan or not, no-one can deny this is a huge compliment. Gibbs, who very much plays the way Cole continues to do now for club and country, hasn’t quite stamped his mark upon the first eleven of Arsenal due to injuries and the performances of Gael Clichy (despite a few voicing their opinions on some costly mistakes from the Frenchman earlier on in the season); but with Clichy being the last remaining ‘Invincible’ and constantly being linked with a move to Italy, 2011-2012 season could be the time for Gibbs to become a fans’ favourite for both club and country.
Arsenal could yet add more positivity to England’s future, with fourth choice keeper James Shea receiving lavish praise, which prompted Southampton to take the hot prospect on loan for a month.
Brazil 2014 is still a few years off, but even so; Arsenal could yet become the team that lifts the World Cup for England, just like West Ham did in 1966.

Arsene has never been against English players – simply put, he’s had to bide his time and build his own. I can see why Arsene rarely ever bought Brits, they just don’t fit the way Arsenal play. How many truly technically gifted English players are there in that old guard? Wenger has taken almost 15 years but now he has bred a new generation of English players and not just Theo, Jack and Kieran but Aneke, Bartley, Cruise, JET, Lansbury, Shea to name a few.

Daniel. another great article. I saw Gibbs on loan at Norwich a few seasons ago and he always looked a good player. In those days he was considered a midfield player. Going on loan to Championship clubs seems to work, remember Ashley Cole once had a loan spell at Crystal Palace?
Another name that I think is worth keeping an eye on is Henri Lansbury on loan at Norwich at the moment and he already looks like a top player. However, I would have said the same about David Bentley a few seasons ago.
Time will tell if Lansbury has a future at Arsenal or not – but I hope he gets an opportunity in the Premier League and for England.
By the way Daniel, what is your Twitter?

Yes I think Palace offered £1million to buy him and Arsenal turned it down.
