Mirror Football has reported that Liverpool are lining up a shock move for Reading’s Player of the Season, Shane Long. The Republic of Ireland international has notched 21 goals for the playoff hopefuls this season and should they fail in their promotion bid, the Merseyside outfit are hoping for a cut price deal of around £5 million, as Long only has a year to run on his contract.

Despite signing Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez in the January transfer, Liverpool are expected to sign Long, as question marks over still hang over back up striker David Ngog. The Reading man has become a priority due to his value for money.

Long’s impressive record of 52 goals in 114 appearances for the Royal’s has also caught Newcastle United’s interest; should they firm up their interest with the prospect of first team football, Liverpool may face competition for the Irishman’s signature.

Now as we know Kenny and the new owners have gone back to the old Liverpool way whereby we know nothing until it is fact and told to us. So I would surmise Mr Blazer has just plucked this story from the depths of his tiny mind. Or cut and pasted it from some other hacks post, as is the wont of modern journalists.
